New Hampshire field hockey dropped by Providence, 2-1, in ot

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Courtney Dow scored 1:41 into the first overtime session to lift the Providence College field hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 2-1 victory against the University of New Hampshire at Hendricken Field.

Following a scoreless first half, Providence (9-4) took a 1-0 lead at 4:20 into the second half. Jennifer Chin's goal on a penalty corner was set up by Casey Geary.

UNH (5-10) tied the game with 12:29 remaining in regulation. Marcie Boyer (Dillsburg, Pa.) scored a goal with a low, hard shot from 12 feet in front of the net, Boyer is now tied with Kristen Weldon (Avon, Conn.) for the team lead in goals with seven. Lauren Bruce (Amherst, N.Y.) recorded her first career point with an assist on the play.

UNH goalie Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.) made four saves in 71 minutes, 41 seconds of action. PC's Meaghan Moran was also credited with four saves.

New Hampshire returns to action Oct. 19 (3 p.m.) at the University of Vermont. UNH's next home game is the regular-season finale vs. Maine on Oct. 27 (1 p.m.).
