New Hampshire's Skelley named Rookie of the Week by America East

BOSTON - Kaitlyn Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional), a freshman midfielder on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was honored as Rookie of the Week by the America East conference on Monday.

Skelley made a strong contribution to UNH's defensive effort in which the team surrendered one goal to both Syracuse University (2-1 double overtime victory) and Stanford University (3-1 victory). Her primary responsibility in each match was to mark the opponent's top scorer and she held Stanford's Noor Dawood in check by not allowing a shot. Skelley had a direct impact denying a goal when she recorded a defensive save in the game against Stanford.

Skelley immediately stepped into a starting role as a freshman this season and has started all four games.

UNH has won two consecutive games to level its record at 2-2. The Wildcats return to action Sept. 10 vs. the University of Connecticut at Harvard University. Game time is 7 p.m.
