EVANSTON, Ill. -- Kate O'Connell broke a 1-1 tie with 19:58 remaining in the game to lift the Indiana University field hockey team to Saturday afternoon's 2-1 victory against the University of New Hampshire at Northwestern University's Leonard B.Thomas Sports Complex.
Trailing 1-0 at the start of the second half, UNH pulled even when Katie White (Glens Falls, N.Y.) scored a goal off a penalty corner at 43:24. Mackenzie Stuart (Washington Depot, Conn.) was credited with an assist.
O'Connell scored the game-winning goal at 50:02 when a loose ball emerged from a scramble in front to her stick and she fired a shot into the cage.
IU (8-6) had taken a 1-0 lead in the 31st minute on a Ludia Schrott goal.
UNH goalkeeper Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.) made six saves while counterpart Katie Kanara was credited with two saves.
UNH (1-11) returns to action Oct. 10 at Northwestern. The next Wildcat home game is Oct. 15 vs. Albany. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
