EVANSTON, Ill. -- Katie White (Glens Falls, N.Y.) scored three goals, including tallies 63 seconds apart in the second half, to propel the University of New Hampshire field hockey team to Sunday afternoon's 4-3 non-conference victory against Northwestern University at Leonard B.Thomas Sports Complex.
With UNH trailing 3-1 at halftime, White trimmed the deficit to 3-2 at 43:30 with a shot inside the circle that was set up by Caitlin Gillen (New Preston, Conn.). She scored again at 44:34, this time off a rebound, to tie the score at 3.
New Hampshire scored for the third time in a span of 3:26 when Kaitlyn Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H.), with the assistance of Brittany Schneider (Middletown, Md.), gave the visiting Wildcats a 4-3 lead at 46:56.
UNH goalkeeper Margaux Shute (Norridgewock, Maine), who entered the game at the start of the second half, preserved that one-goal lead with four second-half saves to earn her first career victory.
Starting goalie Christine Buckley (Walpole, Mass.) played the first half in which she allowed three goals and stopped nine shots. Northwestern's Sherri-Anne Nyberg was credited with four saves.
The home Wildcats jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Candice Cooper at 22:36 and 23:38, the second of which came on a penalty stroke. White's first goal of the game pulled UNH within 2-1 at 31:38 but Northwestern reestablished a two-goal advantage on a Cassie Miller tally at 33:22.
UNH (2-11) returns to action at home Oct. 15 vs. Albany. Game time at Memorial Field is 3 p.m.
