New Hampshire field hockey selected third in America East Preseason Coaches Poll

BOSTON -- The University of New Hampshire field hockey team, which advanced to the conference postseason for the third consecutive year in 2004, was selected third in the 2005 America East Preseason Coaches Poll that was released Thursday afternoon.

UNH garnered 17 points to place behind Boston University (25 points; five first-place votes) and the University of Maine (20 points) in the poll. The University at Albany (12), University of Vermont (11) and UMBC (5) complete the poll.

Robin Balducci, 15th-year head coach of the Wildcats, welcomes back 10 letterwinners, a pair of redshirt freshmen and 11 newcomers in 2005. Senior co-captains Kaitlyn Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H.) and Katie White (Glens Falls, N.Y.) are two of the top offensive threats and will lead a team that features seven student-athletes from the Granite State.

New Hampshire opens the season Aug. 27 at home against Indiana and the 'Cats will also play host to Sacred Heart on Aug. 28. Both games at Memorial Field begin at 1 p.m.
