FIELD HOCKEY BLANKED BY MIAMI, 3-0

BURLINGTON, Vt.
  – The Miami (Ohio) University field hockey team scored three first-half goals en route to Sunday afternoon’s 3-0 victory in the final game of the Sheraton Catamount Field Hockey Classic at the University of Vermont’s Post Field.
    Vermont went 2-0 in the tourney to claim the title. UNH fell to 0-5 on the season while Miami is now 3-4.
    The RedHawks took a 1-0 lead on a Deb Leighton goal at 15:11 then Taylor Florence, who set up Leighton’s tally, scored at 25:46 to extend the advantage to two goals. Danielle Perrecone scored with 2:11 remaining in the first half to give Miami a 3-0 lead.
    UNH goalkeeper Margaux Shute (Norridgewock, Maine) was credited with five saves. Miami’s Kelsey Dean stopped four shots.
    UNH junior back Sam Geary  (Norwood, Mass.) was selected to the All-Tournament Team.
    New Hampshire returns to action at home Sept. 15 vs. Harvard University. Game time at Memorial Field is 7 p.m.
