GEARY SELECTED AS AMERICA EAST FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sam Geary
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.  – Sam Geary (Norwood, Mass.), a senior back on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was selected as Player of the Week by America East on Tuesday.

Geary lifted UNH to a 2-1 victory in double overtime against America East rival University of Maine on Oct. 6 by scoring the game-winning goal on an untimed penalty corner at the end of the second overtime session. Geary controlled the pass from Kiera Williams (Dover, N.H.) on the left wing and then swept a low shot inside the far post for her second goal of the season (and career). Geary also anchored a Wildcats’ defensive unit that allowed just seven shots on goal in 100 minutes.

In 13 games this season, Geary has tallied five points on two goals and an assist. In 66 career games, she has two goals and five assists for nine points. Geary’s collegiate accolades include selection to the NFHCA Division I National All-Academic Team and America East All-Conference Second Team.

New Hampshire (7-6 overall, 1-1 America East) returns to action Oct. 10 (6 p.m.) at intrastate rival Dartmouth College. The Wildcats’ next home game is Oct. 20 (1 p.m.) vs. America East newcomer Fairfield University.
