FIELD HOCKEY'S SHEA NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK BY AMERICA EAST
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Meg Shea (Melrose, Mass.), a senior forward on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was named Player of the Week by America East on Monday afternoon.
Shea scored three goals last week to lead UNH to a pair of wins – against UC Davis (2-0) and Penn (3-2) – and first place at the Sheraton Catamount Field Hockey Classic that was held at the University of Vermont.
Against Penn, she leveled the score, 1-1, in the ninth minute and struck again with 1:59 remaining in the game to break a 2-2 tie and give the Wildcats a 3-2 victory. One day earlier, Shea scored in the 68th minute to secure the win against UC Davis. She was one of four Wildcats named to the All-Tournament Team.
Shea is the America East leader in goals (eight), goals per game (1.60), points (16) and points per game (3.20). She leads the team in goals, points and shots (22), and has scored at least one goal in all five games this season.
New Hampshire (3-2) returns to action Sept. 19 at home against the College of the Holy Cross. Game time at Memorial Field is 1 p.m.
