FIELD HOCKEY'S WOODS SELECTED ROOKIE OF THE WEEK BY AMERICA EAST
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Melyssa
Woods (Glens Falls, N.Y.), a freshman midfielder on the
University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was named Rookie of
the Week by America East on Monday.
Woods, who has played an instrumental role in UNH’s midfield all season long, recorded her first career points with a one-goal, one-assist effort in a 6-0 victory at Davidson College on Sept. 25. Her goal at 2:27 gave UNH a 1-0 lead and proved to be the game-winning goal. Soon thereafter, she set up the team’s third goal of the game, which produced a 3-0 advantage at 9:16.
Woods’ goal in the third minute vs. Davidson marked the fastest by a Wildcat since Aug. 31, 2007, when UNH scored 38 seconds into a game vs. Colgate University. Her goal and assist were part of a five-goal first half that marked the team’s highest goal production in a half since Oct. 28, 2006.
New Hampshire (5-3 overall, 0-0 America East) returns to action Oct. 3 at home for its America East opener against the University of Maine. Game time at Memorial Field is 2 p.m.
