FIELD HOCKEY'S FRATES NAMED AMERICA EAST co-PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vermont), a junior forward on the University of New Hampshire field hockey team, was selected as the America East co-Player of the Week on Monday.
Frates spearheaded UNH's 3-2 comeback victory at the University of Maine last Friday by factoring in all three goals to record a career-high five points. With the Wildcats trailing 2-0 at halftime, she set up the team's first goal, then scored the game-tying goal with 3:55 remaining as well as the game-winning goal with five seconds to play. It marked the second consecutive game she tied her personal best of two goals.
Frates leads the team in both goals (seven) and points (18) as well as shooting percentage (.304). She is also tied for third in assists (four). Frates is currently ranked sixth in America East in both points and points per game (1.50) as well as tied for fifth in goals and tied for seventh in goals per game.
In 51 career games, Frates has tallied 25 goals and 20 assists for 70 points. The 20 assists rank tied for seventh on UNH's list of career leaders.
New Hampshire returns to action with two home games this week. The Wildcats play host to intrastate rival Dartmouth College on Oct. 6 (7 p.m.) and then Vermont travels to town Oct. 9 (5 p.m.) for part of UNH's Homecoming Weekend.
