CHANDLER, Ariz. – Whitney Frates (Woodstock, Vt.) and Kyle Lyons (White River Junction, Vt.) of the 10th-ranked University of New Hampshire field hockey team are two of 38 players selected to participate in the 2011 NFHCA Division I Senior Game, which will be held Nov. 19 at the University of Louisville.
This year's Senior Game participants will face off against the U.S. Women's National Team as well as against each other in a series of four 25-minute periods.
Frates, a four-time America East Player of the Week during the 2011 season, has recorded 22 goals and 10 assists for 54 points in 18 games. With those statistics, she ranks #2 in the nation in points per game and #4 in goals per game, and Frates leads America East in ppg, gpg and game-winning goals (six); she is also third in the league in assists per game as well as second in shots per game.
Frates' collegiate accolades include NFHCA All-America Second Team (2010), NFHCA Northeast Region First Team (2009, 2010), America East Academic Honor Roll (2009, 2010) and America East All-Conference First Team (2009, 2010).
Lyons, starter of all 19 games, ranks third on the team in goals (six), assists (eight) and points (20), as well as shots (58), as a prominent part of the offensive penalty corner unit. She has also been credited with one defensive save and is a linchpin of the defense, as well as a key component to the team's transition from defense to attack with her lifted passes through midfield.
Lyons' collegiate accolades include NFHCA Northeast Region Second Team (2010) and America East All-Conference First Team (2010).
New Hampshire (15-4, 4-1 America East) finished as league regular-season co-champions and top seed of the 2011 America East Field Hockey Championship that will be held Nov. 4 & 6 at Memorial Field. UNH plays in the opening game of the tourney Nov. 4 (1 p.m.) against 12th-ranked University at Albany.
