Burlington, Vt.-- The University of New Hampshire women's gymnastics team won all four events as they defeated the University of Vermont in its season opener on Friday evening., 192.7-180.35.
UNH took the top four spots in the vault with sophomore Bethany Wagner (Bound Brook, N.J.) leading the way with a 9.725. She was followed by freshman Michelle Harley (Collegeville, Pa.) with a 9.675 and Rose Kosowski (Whitesboro, N.Y.) with 9.525.
The Wildcats scored a 48.150 on the uneven bars, thanks to a 9.825 from junior Wendy Wheaton (Rockville, Md.) and a 9.775 from classmate Suzanne Poretz (Alexandria, Va.).
Senior tri-captain Cara Lepper (Southington, Conn.) scored a nearly perfect 9.9 on the balance beam to help give the 'Cats their highest event score of the day with a 48.55. Senior Kathy Thickman (Glastonbury, Conn.) had a 9.725 on the apparatus.
Harley, who had 38.05 in the all-around, had a team-high 9.825 on the floor exercise.
UNH (1-0) returns to action at home on January 16 against Penn State University at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium.
