DURHAM, N.H. -- Suzanne Poretz (Alexandria, Va.), a junior at the University of New Hampshire, was named Gymnast of the Week by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League on Jan. 27.
Poretz won the all-around competition with a career-best score of 38.850 to lead the Wildcats to a 192.925 – 191.950 victory against the University of Massachusetts on Jan. 22. The former T.C. Williams High School standout also bested her career mark on the uneven bars with a score of 9.825. Poretz, a 1999 All-EAGL second team selection on the beam, placed second on that apparatus with a score or 9.800. She also placed fourth in the vault (9.500) and helped the Wildcats set a season-high score of 48.975 on the floor exercise with her 9.725.
Poretz established a career-high 9.550 on the vault Jan. 16 against Penn State and also set a new benchmark with a 9.775 on the floor in that meet. Her best mark of 9.85 on the balance beam was accomplished last season.
UNH, ranked 13th in the nation according to this week’s poll, is 3-0 this season and competes against the University of Pittsburgh on Jan. 29 at Lundholm Gymnasium. Meet time is 7 p.m.
