WILDCATS GYMNASTS SUFFER FIRST LOSS

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The University of New Hampshire gymnastics team traveled to Penn State University on Saturday, January 20. The women had previously held a 4-0 record, which fell to 4-1 after their 194.075-192.150 loss to the Nittany Lions.

Entering their last event, the Wildcats still had a chance to win. Though they were able to outscore the Nittany Lions47.950-47.300, the scores on the beam were not enough to pull up the final score. Suzanne Poretz (Alexandria, Va.) took the top score of 9.825 in the event, despite limited practice this week due to a pulled stomach muscle from last weekend's competition.

Rose Kosowski (Whitesboro, N.Y.) and Michelle Harley (Collegeville, Pa) were the leading scorers in tallying a final floor score of 47.550, each holding a score of 9.775.

The Wildcats were able to top Penn State in the all-around competition. In her first all-around appearance, Harley captured first-place with a score of 38.750. Harley also took the top score on the bars with a 9.725. The team ended the event with a score of 48.075. On the vault the team scored 47.550, led again by Harley with a 9.675.

The women will return to action Saturday, January 27 (7 p.m.) at Pittsburgh.
