77 NAMED TO EAGL ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM

Towson, Md. - The University of New Hampshire women's gymnastics team had eight student athletes named to this season's EAGL All-Academic.Team, according to a release from the league office on Wed., March 19.

A grand total of 77 scholar-athletes were named to the EAGL All-Academic team, announced by the league office on Wednesday. The total of 77 gymnasts is the second-highest total in the eight-year history of the EAGL. In 1999 and 2000, a record 88 gymnasts were honored.

In order to be named to the EAGL All-Academic team, student-athletes must have a grade point average of 3.00 or higher in the two previous semesters.

Amazingly, of the 132 gymnasts who compete on the eight EAGL teams, 58.3 per cent of them were named to the EAGL All-Academic team. Of the 77 gymnasts, eight are seniors who were named to the EAGL All-Academic Team for the fourth year in a row, including UNH's own Michelle Harley (Collegeville, Pa.)

Seniors Anne Chaffee (Greenville, N.C.) and Natalie Halbach (Plymouth, Minn.) of North Carolina are among the four-time honorees. In addition, Marlyn Madey (Hockessin, Del.) and Stephanie Southard (Indiatlantic, Fla.) of North Carolina State were honored for the fourth consecutive year. Seniors Amanda Halovanic (Grove City, Pa.) of West Virginia, Michelle Harley (Collegeville, Pa.) of New Hampshire, Tracy Wolf (Fallston, Md.) of Towson, and Lisa Yarosh (Seymour, Conn.) of Pittsburgh also made the team for the fourth year in a row.

All 77 gymnasts will be honored at the annual EAGL awards dinner on Friday, March 28 at the annual EAGL Awards Banquet here in Durham. The eighth annual EAGL Championship Meet is set for Saturday, March 29, at the Whittemore Center. The meet begins at 6:00 p.m.
