DURHAM, N.H. - The NCAA announced Monday that the University of New Hampshire will host the women's gymnastics Northeast Regional championship on April 9, 2005 at the Whittemore Center Arena. It marks the second time that UNH has hosted the event, as the 'Cats hosted the Northeast Regional in 1991.

The 2005 regional will mark the second major gymnastics event to be hosted by UNH in three years. This season, UNH hosted the East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Championship at the Whittemore Center, drawing a conference-record 2,456 fans for the meet. The Wildcats captured the meet for the first time with a score of 196.750.

The UNH gymnastics team, under veteran head coach Gail Goodspeed, has appeared in regional competition in each of the 22 years the NCAA has sponsored women's gymnastics. In 1994 UNH captured the Northeast Region title and advanced to the NCAA national championship for the first, and to date only, time in school history.
