UNH GYMNASTS TOP MARYLAND WITH HIGH SCORE OF SEASON

he University of New Hampshire women’s gymnastics team recorded its best team score of the season, as the squad posted four individual career highs and defeated EAGL rival University of Maryland 195.250 to 194.550 Saturday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. Five gymnasts for the Wildcats also tied their personal records.
    UNH took the top three spots on the uneven bars. With a score of 9.9, freshman Helena Diodati (Scarborough, Maine) placed first, freshman Diane Grey (Spring, Texas) took second with 9.85, and junior Rebekah Porter (Valparaiso, Ind.) and senior Heather Moore (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) tied for third with 9.825 points. Diodati, Grey and Porter all set personal records on bars.
    Freshman Keeley Smith (University Place, Wash.) set a personal record and took first place on the floor exercise with a posting of 9.875. Junior Fairen Plummer (Louisville, Ky.) nabbed second with a 9.850. Sophomore Lindsay Kovary (Huntington Station, N.Y.) tied her best score of 9.725 on floor as well.
    In vault, three gymnasts tied personal records. Sophomore Justine Turner (Salem, N.H.) placed first with a 9.8. Diodati tied for third with a mark of 9.8 and Porter finished in the top 10 with a 9.625.
    Senior Jamie deMello (Milton, Mass.) nabbed first place as she tied a personal best of 9.875 to take the balance beam. Smith posted a mark of 9.850 to take third in the event.
    The final home meet of the 2007 season for the UNH gymnastics team will take place on March 16 against EAGL conference rival North Carolina. The meet begins at 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium. The squad returns to action on Feb. 23 at Maryland, along with Temple and Yale. That meet begins at 7 p.m.
