DURHAM, N.H.—Sophomore gymnast Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) of the University of New Hampshire women’s gymnastics team was named the East Atlantic Gymnastic League (EAGL) Specialist of the Week on Tuesday following her outstanding efforts in the Wildcat victories over Rutgers and Bridgeport.
LaFountain took first place on balance beam with a high score of 9.7 and nailed two double backs on floor for second place in the event for a mark of 9.575.
The UNH team, which enjoyed one of its best season-opening meets in years, posted a first-place score of 191.475, well ahead of second-place Rutgers and third-place Bridgeport.
LaFountain and her teammates will return to action this coming Friday (Jan. 11) when the squad entertains Rhode Island. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gymnasium and tickets are still available at www.unhwildcats.com.
