GYMNASTS POST SEASON-HIGH SCORE VS. NORTH CAROLINA STATE ON SENIOR NIGHT

DURHAM, N.H.-- They may have fallen to EAGL rival North Carolina State University, but the University of New Hampshire women’s gymnastics team posted a season-high score of 194.600 in its final regular season meet of 2008 Saturday night at Lundholm Gymnasium. North Carolina State won the meet with a score of 196.050.
    The best event for the ‘Cats was their first of the meet, the vault. Four of the six competing gymnasts for UNH scored at least a 9.80 in the event. Junior Justine Turner (Salem, NH) and sophomore Helena Diodati (Scarborough, Maine) each scored a 9.850 in a four-way tie for first place. Sophomore Kelsey Alwin (St. Michael, Minn.) and freshman Chelsea Steinberg (Ridgewood, N.J.) both scored a 9.80 to tie for fifth place.
    In the final home meet of her career, senior co-captain Rebekah Porter (Valparaiso, Ind.) notched a career-high 9.9 on bars. Diodati earned a season-high 9.875 to take second place in the event.
    Sophomore Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) also scored a career-high 9.9 on beam to tie for first place. Tying for third place was Steinberg with a 9.850. Turner tied for fifth place in the event with a 9.825.
    Tying a career-high mark of 9.825, Porter tied for third place on floor. Sophomore Keeley Smith (University Place, Wash.) and Turner tied for fifth place with scores of 9.775, as well.
    The Wildcats travel to West Virginia next Saturday, March 29, for the EAGL Championships in an annual battle against some of the top teams in the nation.
