BRIDGEPORT, Conn.—The University of New Hampshire women’s gymnastics team remains undefeated this season with a 6-0 record after winning a tri-meet at Bridgeport on Sat., Jan. 24.
The Wildcats won the meet with a high score of 192.900, while Bridgeport captured second place (186.975), followed by Yale in third (184.60).
As has been the case in all three meets this season, UNH took first place in all four events.
Leading the team again this week was junior Helena Diodati (Scarborough, Maine), as the EAGL Gymnast of the Week took first-place honors in both the vault and on bars with identical scores of 9.85. She also led the way in the all-around for the afternoon, taking first place with a four-event total of 38.750, after posting a mark of 9.45 on balance beam to tie for fourth and a score of 9.6 in the floor exercise for sixth. It was her first time competing in the all-around competition during her UNH career.
Junior Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) continues to excel for the ‘Cats on balance beam, notching a first-place judgement of 9.775.
Senior Justine Turner (Salem, N.H.) led all gymnasts in the floor exercise, taking first overall with a high score of 9.8. However, she was followed in second place by a pair of teammates as LaFountain and junior Julie Sauchuk (Peabody, Mass.), a transfer from Michigan State, each scored 9.775.
The schedule gets tougher this week as UNH will entertain EAGL rival North Carolina at Lundholm Gym on Sat., Jan. 31. The meet is set to begin at 7 p.m. and tickets can be purchased online at www.unhwildcats.com.
