DURHAM, N.H.- Junior University of New Hampshire gymnast Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastics League Specialist of the Week for her outstanding performance in UNH’s 194.825-193.9 victory over George Washington University this past weekend.
LaFountain won the two events that she competed in against GWU. For the sixth time this season, she took first place on beam with a personal-best score of 9.9. She also posted the top spot in the floor exercise with a judgement of 9.825, which marked the third time this season LaFountain earned first place honors in the event.
LaFountain has now earned EAGL Specialist of the Week honors three times in 2009, the most of any gymnast in the league. She also earned the award on Jan. 12 and again on Feb. 16.
LaFountain is now ranked second in the EAGL on balance beam with an RQS of 9.840 and she is eighth in the EAGL in the floor exercise with her RQS of 9.795.
The Wildcats will travel to the West Coast this week to battle host school Cal Davis, along with Sacramento State and Bowling Green on Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. The final home meet for the Wildcats is set for Sunday, March 15 vs. Michigan State. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Lundholm Gym and tickets are available at www.unhwildcats.com.
