DURHAM, N.H.—University of New Hampshire junior gymnast Taryn LaFountain (Utica, N.Y.) was named the East Atlantic Gymnastic League (EAGL) Specialist of the Week for her outstanding performance in the Wildcats’ season-opening victory over Rutgers on Jan. 10.
LaFountain competed in two events and placed first in both, posting a 9.825 on balance beam (tied for first) and led all gymnasts in the floor exercise with a mark of 9.850.
Looking at the EAGL top scores for 2009 in her two events, LaFountain recorded the second-highest score on beam in the league and is tied for second in floor.
The Wildcats are on the road this week for a meet at Pittsburgh along with Air Force and Bridgeport on Jan. 17. The next home meet for the Wildcats is set for Jan. 31 vs. North Carolina. The action begins at 7 p.m. in Lundholm Gym and tickets are available online at www.unhwildcats.com.
