Gymnastics drops 195.7-193.9 decision to No. 19 North Carolina State

RALEIGH, N.C.Jillian Hudson (Sparkill, N.Y.) scored a 9.825 to tie her career high on vault as the University of New Hampshire gymnastics team scored a second-place finish against EAGL rival North Carolina State on Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum.

The Wolfpack outscored the Wildcats, 195.7-193.9, to end UNH's winning streak at seven. With the setback, the Wildcats' record slipped to 8-2 overall and 2-1 in EAGL competition. The Wolfpack improved to 6-3 on the season, 2-0 in EAGL.

Austyn Fobes (Howell, N.J.) scored a season-high 9.85 on uneven bars to finish runner-up in that event and added a third-place tally of 9.8 on balance beam.

The Wildcats began the meet on bars, led by Fobes and Danielle Reibold (Horsham, Pa.), who posted a 9.775 to finish fifth. Stephanie Ouellette of N.C. State captured the high bar score with a 9.875, and the home team squeezed out a 48.875-48.6 event win.

Hudson tied Ouellette for second place on vault, while the Wolfpack's Brooke Barr compiled a 9.9 for the event victory. N.C. State totaled 48.975 to edge UNH (48.825).

Kayla Gray (Buffalo, N.Y.), the reigning EAGL Rookie of the Week, led the Wildcats on floor exercise, matching her career-high 9.825 for the second straight week and earning third place in the process. The rest of the floor lineup was plagued by uncharacteristic faults, causing the 'Cats to fall, 48.875-47.775. Barr (9.875) claimed the high floor score.

UNH bounced back on beam, paced by Fobes' third-place effort and a career-high 9.775 from Jannelle Minichiello (Orlando, Fla.), who took fourth. The Wildcats totaled 48.7 on beam, just shy of the Wolfpack's 48.975. Lane Jarred of N.C. State posted a 9.9 to finish in the top spot.
