DURHAM, NH -- Marcelle Williams (Teaneck, N.J.), a freshman point guard on the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team, was named America East Rookie of the Week on Nov 29.
Williams recorded 15 points in UNH’s 81-78 loss to Buffalo last Tuesday and scored 20 points to help the Wildcats record their first victory of the season, 75-57 vs. Dartmouth, last Friday.. Williams helped secure the win by making all four of his free throw attempts over the final 3:30. He went 8-for-8 from the line and also netted four 3-pointers in the game.
Williams, who scored 22 points in his collegiate debut at Boston College on Nov. 20, leads UNH and is second in the conference in scoring (19.0 ppg) and is second in both assists (10) and steals (seven). He has started all three gaines and is averaging 34.7 minutes per game.
New Hampshire (1-2) returns to action Nov. 29 at No. 5 Florida (7 p.m.). Next is a Dec. 4 trip to Brown University for a seven o’clock game. The Wildcats do not play a home game until the year 2000, when they play host to Towson University on Jan. 2 (1 p.m.).
