Men's Basketball Falls To BU, 61-51

BOSTON, MA -- Senior forward Mike Costello scored all eight of his points during a key run late in the second half and senior Jean Avebe scored a team-high 12 points as the Boston University Terriers (2-6, 1-1) downed the visiting Wildcats of New Hampshire (1-6, 0-2), 61-51, in America East action tonight on 'The Roof'.

A close game throughout, B.U. extended a 35-29 halftime lead to 39-31 with 13:10 left before UNH went on a 10-2 run to tie the game at 41-41 with 12:09 to play.

Two jumpshots by Rob Marquardt and a layup and jumper by Marcelle Williams keyed the New Hampshire run.

The Terriers then put the game away, sprouting off a 14-5 run to take an 11 point lead at 56-45 with 4:01 to play. The run started with a jumper by freshman Jacob Kudlacz , then Costello scored all of his point on the night, hitting two three-pointers and a running jumper to pull B.U. ahead to stay.

Sophomore guard Dereck Franklin hit four free throws in the final :38 seconds to secure the victory.

Franklin and freshman guard Paul Seymour were the Terriers’ other double digit scorers with 12 and 11 points, respectively.

Kudlacz and freshman guard Matt Turner added nine and eight points.

Dennis Wollf became Boston University men’s basketball all-time leader in games coached with 155. Wolff came into tonight’s game tied with Matt Zunic, who coached the Terriers from 1952-59, for the all-time lead.
