BOSTON-- Freshman forward Mike Christensen (Reston, Va.) of the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team was named the America East Rookie of the Week for his outstanding efforts in UNH's contests vs. Northeastern and at Albany.
Christensen averaged 16.0 ppg. and 7.5 rpg. in the two games after scoring a season-high 19 points, grabbing six assists and coming up with one steal in 27 minutes of action vs. the Great Danes.
Against the Huskies, Christensen scored 13 points, was the team's leader in rebounding with nine boards and he passed for four assists.
A strong candidate for the America East All-Rookie squad, Christensen is averaging 8.5 ppg. and 5.0 rpg for the Wildcats as a 20-game starter for head coach Phil Rowe.
Christensen has scored in double digits eight times this season for the Wildcats and has pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds twice. He also has a pair of double-doubles in points and rebounds to his credit.
Christensen and his teammates return to action on Wed., Feb. 7 at Maine. Game time is 7:30 p.m. and the contest can be heard live on the Wildcat Sports Network.
