DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men’s basketball head coach Bill Herrion has announced senior Mike Christensen (Reston, Va.), junior Tyrece Gibbs (Brockton, Mass.) and sophomore Radar Onguetou (Yaoundé, Cameroon) as captains for the upcoming 2007-08 season.

Christensen returns for his fourth year as a member of the Wildcats and serves as captain for the first time. Christensen was sidelined January 9 with a broken foot and missed the final 15 games of the season. Christensen posted an impressive season, however, scoring 13.1 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. He tallied a career-high 28 points in a victory over Maine just prior to his injury. He has scored 709 points, 343 rebounds and 134 assists for his career.

Gibbs returns for his junior season and was fourth on the team in scoring, posting 9.5 points per game. Gibbs’ has the ability to drive to the basket and is a three-point threat after posting the third most treys on the team with 45. He is quick and has the range to be a dangerous outside precense. He provided a huge offensive lift with the absence of Christensen and scored in double-digits in eight of the last 13 games, including a career-high 22 points in a win over Stony Brook.

Onguetou returns for just his second season. The sophomore forward was third on the team in rebounds and was first in offensive rebounds with 53. Onguetou came on strong during the second half, recording 11 straight starts. He scored a career-high 15 points against Hartford and was named America East Player of the Game during the America East Quarterfinals against University at Albany.

The Wildcats finished seventh in the America East, compiling an overall record of 10-20.
