DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire men’s basketball head coach Bill Herrion has named senior guard Jermaine Anderson (Beverly, Mass.) and senior forward Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia) as co-captains for the upcoming 2006-07 campaign, it was announced on Wednesday.
“We are certainly thrilled to have Blagoj and Jermaine as our captains for the 2006-07 season. We’re looking forward to their leadership and experience, particularly with our younger players as we continue to build our program at UNH,” said coach Herrion.
Anderson, who is one of America East’s most accomplished defenders returns for his fourth season as a Wildcat. The 6’1” point guard averaged 8.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game last season. He was first on the team in steals with 35 and third in assists with 68. His 92 percent free throw average was also a team-high. Anderson provides veteran leadership on and off the court and will contribute to the development of the six incoming freshmen.
Janev also returns for his fourth season as a Wildcat. The 2005-06 America East First Team member leads by example and carries a tremendous work ethic. The 6’8” Australian native led the team with 14.4 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last season. He also led the team in minutes with 959 and was second on the team in blocks with nine.
