ABREU TAKES HOME THIRD WEEKLY CONFERENCE AWARD
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The America East conference announced Monday that freshman guard Alvin Abreu (Lynn, Mass.), of the University of New Hampshire men’s basketball team, was named America East Men’s Basketball Co-Rookie of the Week for the week ending Feb. 24. This marks the third time Abreu has garnered the award this season.

Abreu, who averaged 18.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists this week, started his week by nearly posting a triple-double in a 74-67 win against Stony Brook University on Feb. 23. Abreu netted 18 points, tied his career high with eight rebounds and set a career high with nine assists, before tallying 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting and adding two rebounds and an assist in 45 minutes of a 71-68 overtime loss to UMBC on Feb. 23.
   
Abreu also won the award Dec. 10, when he averaged 12.0 points and 4.0 rebounds in games against Northeastern University and Brown University, and Jan. 7 when he averaged 17.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in games against the University at Albany and UMBC.
   
Boston University’s John Holland, who averaged 20.5 points, five rebounds, 2.0 assists and 4.5 steals last week, was selected as the other America East Rookie of the Week.
   
Abreu, who leads all America East rookies in scoring at 12.7 points per game, is shooting 36 percent from the floor and from behind the arc, while leading the team with an 82 percent free throw percentage.
   
Abreu and the Wildcats return to action Thursday, Feb. 28 at 7 p.m. when they play host to Vermont in their season finale at Lundholm Gymnasium on Senior Night.
