CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Alvin Abreu (Lynn, Mass.) a senior guard on the University of New Hampshire men's basketball team, was named the America East Co-Player of the Week by the conference Monday afternoon.
Abreu takes home the honors after earning his first career double-double versus Hartford (Feb. 1), posting 20 points and 10 rebounds to propel the Wildcats to a 52-51 victory over the Hawks at Lundholm Gymnasium. In addition to leading New Hampshire in scoring against Hartford, the co-captain also hit a three-pointer with just 27 seconds left and the game tied at 49 to lift UNH to victory.
He was tabbed the America East Player of the Game in the contest, achieving season highs in minutes played (40), assists (4) and 3-point field goals (4). With his four 3-point baskets, he moved into fourth place on UNH's all-time list with 198 treys.
He previously earned Player of the Week honors on Jan. 5, 2009 and currently ranks 10th among league leaders in scoring (13.3 ppg).
Abreu and the Wildcats return to action Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. against America East-leading Stony Brook at Lundholm Gymnasium.
