Jean Bain enters his seventh season at New Hampshire as an assistant coach under head coach Bill Herrion. In his time with the Wildcats he has distinguished himself as a dedicated recruiter and in-game coach. One of his primary duties is off- and on-campus recruiting. He is also involved heavily in scouting reports and game preparations for UNH opponents, as well as video breakdowns of games and practices.

On the practice floor, he works closely with the team’s perimeter players and has seen the fruits of his labor come full circle through the careers of Tyrone Conley and current senior Alvin Abreu (Lynn, Mass.). Last season, Conley picked up America East Second-Team honors as a senior after earning conference All-Rookie status in 2008. As for Abreu, he has been just as successful, as he was named to the America East All-Conference Second Team, while also earning collegehoops.net Mid-Major All-America honorable mention status in 2010.

Prior to his stint at UNH, Bain was an assistant coach at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. There he was in charge of tracking the progress of student-athletes, the recruitment of qualified prospects, film exchange and fundraising. He served as the Assistant Director of the WPI Summer Basketball Camp.  While at WPI, Bain helped guide the regular season champion Engineers to a record of 24-4. The Engineers were tournament champions of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletics Conference (NEWMAC) and made an appearance in the Division III Sweet Sixteen.

A 2002 graduate of Northeastern University, Bain played under current Duquesne head coach Ron Everhart and current Kansas State head coach Frank Martin. While playing at Northeastern, Bain was selected as the America East Rookie of the Year in 1999. In 2002 he was named an America East All-Conference guard and team MVP. He was also a two-year captain.

Bain is an active member of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC), as well as the Black Coaches Association (BCA).
