LOWELL, MA (Oct. 30, 1999) - Freshman wing Patrick Foley (Milton, MA) registered a goal eight minutes, eight seconds into the third period to break a 1-1 tie and lead the University of New Hampshire ice hockey team to a 2-1 victory over the University of Massachusetts Lowell Saturday night at the Tsongas Arena.
The victory snapped a two-game win streak for the River Hawks, who slip to 2-4 overall, 1-1 in Hockey East. The Wildcats, ranked No. 5 in the latest national poll, improved to 4-1 overall, 1-0 in Hockey East.
UMass Lowell opened the scoring 1:15 into the first period when senior defender Kevin Bertram (Nanaimo, BC) scored off assists from sophomore defender Josh Allison (Blairsville, PA) and senior forward Chris Bell (Chase, BC).
UNH equalized 30 seconds into the second period when sophomore right wing Darren Heydar's (Milton, ONT) shot beat Rivier Hawks goalkeeper Cam McCormick (Kamloops, BC). Senior wing Mike Souza (Wakefield, MA) and junior defender Sean Austin (Malden, MA) earned the assists.
UMass Lowell outshot the Wildcats, 29-17, as junior Ty Conklin (Anchorage, AK) was brilliant with 28 saves. McCormick stopped 15 shots for UML.
The River Hawks visit UMass Amherst Friday night at 7 p.m. and Boston College Sunday at 2 p.m.
