Durham (AP) -The New Hampshire men’s ice hockey team (11-2-1, 6-0-1) ran its unbeaten streak to eight games as the Wildcats edged Lowell (4-9-1, 1-6-1) 3-2 Friday night.
The two teams played battled through 18 minutes of scoreless play in the third period until Darren Haydar scored off a breakaway for a 3-1 New Hampshire lead. Lowell cut New Hampshire’s lead 3-2 at the 19:54 mark of the third period on a goal by Tom Rouleau.
In the second period, Lowell cut the lead 2-1 at 16:46 when Lowell forward Yorick Treille put in a rebound top shelf from Dan Fontas. New Hampshire extended its lead 2-0 at 1:47 when Jason Shipulski put one past Lowell goaltender Cam McCormick. Dan Enders and Johnny Rodgers recorded assists.
Corey Joe Ficek got New Hampshire on the board in the first period 1-0 at 14:37 when he found the top shelf after a Sean Austin passed the puck to Ficek for a two on one. New Hampshire goaltender Ty Conklin also assisted on the goal.
Conklin finished with 24 saves for New Hampshire. McCormick recorded 27 saves for the River Hawks.
