AMHERST, Mass. -- David Busch and Joshua Prudden each notched a goal and an assist as the University of New Hampshire defeated the University of Massachusetts, 3-0, tonight in Hockey East action at the Mullins Center. UNH netminder Ty Conklin set a new Hockey East record with his fourth shutout of the season.

The Minutemen close out the 2000-01 season with a record of 8-22-4 overall, and 7-15-2 in Hockey East. They finished in ninth place in Hockey East, one point behind Merrimack for the final playoff spot.

After a scoreless first period, UNH got on the board when Busch beat Minuteman senior netminder Markus Helanen (Vantaa, Finland) at 7:15 of the second period. Helanen kept UMass within striking distance as he turned aside 19 Wildcat shots in the period.

UMass had three power-play oppurtunities in the third period, but could not beat Conklin. UNH added two insurance goals late in the third to end the Minuteman season.

Helanen made 37 saves on the evening, while Conklin stoped all 17 UMass shots he faced. UNH ends their regular season with a record of 20-10-6 overall, 11-8-5 in Hockey East. They will face UMass-Lowell in the first round of the Hockey East playoffs.
