UNH, UMass-Lowell Battle to 0-0 Tie in Men's Hockey

DURHAM, N.H. - University of New Hampshire goalie Ty Conklin (Anchorage, Alaska) had 27 saves and UMass-Lowell netminder Cam McCormick 29 as UNH and UML battled to a 0-0 overtime tie in men's hockey action here at a sold-out Whittemore Center (6,266) this evening.

New Hampshire now stands at 10-3-3 overall and 4-3-2 in Hockey East, while Lowell is 5-7-2 and 1-6-2 in the league.

The game was the first scoreless tie for New Hampshire since UNH and Amherst College battled to a 0-0 draw on February 1, 1929.

Neither team would find the net in the first period, as each team mustered just four shots. The pace picked up in the second period, with each side firing 13 shots apiece, but several spectacular saves by Conklin and McCormick kept the game scoreless.

Both teams had power play opportunities down the stretch in the the third period but could not capitalize. Neither squad would find the back of the net in overtime as the Wildcats and River Hawks battled to their second tie of the weekend. UNH and UML played to a 2-2 draw at Lowell's Tsongas Arena last night.

The Wildcats are idle next weekend. UNH will return to action on December 14 when they host Harvard. Game time at the Whittemore Center is 7:00 p.m.
