HAYDAR AND COLLINS EARN HOCKEY EAST MONTHLY HONORS

DURHAM, N.H. - Senior captain Darren Haydar (Milton, Ont.) and freshman forward Sean Collins (Reading, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team were named Player and Rookie of the Month, respectively, for December by the Hockey East Association on Thursday afternoon.

Haydar is the first player in Hockey East to win back-to-back Player of the Month awards since Jason Krog did it back in 1998-1999 for the months of December and January. Haydar posted eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in six games in December. The Hobey Baker candidate recorded two points or more in all six games he played in December. He recorded a career-high 3-3-6 vs. Brown in the 11-3 win of the Bank One Badger Showdown on December 28. Haydar was named MVP of the tournament tallying 4-5-9 in two games at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Collins notched five goals and seven assists for 12 points in six games and recorded at least one point in all games in the month of December. This is the second time this season that Collins received the honor. He also won the award in October.

UNH finished the month of December at 5-1-0 overall and defeated Maine in the only conference game of the month. No. 4 ranked UNH is currently 13-3-2 overall and occupies first place in Hockey East with a 6-1-2 record with 14 points.

The Wildcats return to action tonight vs. Yale University at the Whittemore Center. Game time is 7 p.m.
