COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- The University of New Hampshire climbed to the No. 3 spot in the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll after collecting a pair of wins over the past week. The Wildcats defeated Yale University, 5-3, on Thursday and topped Merrimack College, 10-1, on Saturday.
St. Cloud State University collected 15 first-place votes and 281 overall points to remain atop the poll for the fifth consecutive week. The Huskies defeated the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, 5-1, on Friday night. The University of Denver continued to gain on St. Cloud following a series sweep of the University of Wisconsin. The Pioneers shut out the Badgers, 3-0, on Friday and were 5-1 victors on Saturday. The University of Minnesota fell to No. 4 after splitting a series with the University of North Dakota. North Dakota won, 4-3, on Saturday, while the Golden Gophers claimed a 2-1 victory on Sunday. The University of Massachusetts-Lowell remained at No. 5 after defeating Colgate University, 7-4, on Friday.
This week's schedule is highlighted by No. 14 University of Alaska-Fairbanks traveling to No. 9 University of Michigan for a pair of Central Collegiate Hockey Association games. In Hockey East action, No. 5 University of Massachusetts-Lowell and No. 10 Boston College will play a home-and-home series. In the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, No. 1 St. Cloud State University will host the University of Minnesota-Duluth, while Michigan Technological University will visit No. 2 University of Denver.
The seventh annual USA Today/American Hockey Magazine Men's College Hockey Poll is conducted each week in conjunction with the American Hockey Coaches Association. The poll includes input from coaches and journalists representing each of the six NCAA Division I ice hockey conferences, as well as composite votes from officers of the American Hockey Coaches Association and American Hockey Magazine, the official publication of USA Hockey .
