WAKEFIELD, Mass. - The Hockey East Association named Lanny Gare (Vernon, B.C.), of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team the Player of the Week on Monday. Gare was awarded for his efforts the previous week including a goal and an assist in UNH's 5-0 victory over Yale on Thursday, Jan. 2, and his third-period hat trick in a four goal performance in UNH's 8-3 win Saturday vs. Merrimack. This marks Gare's second player of the week award this season. The first came on October 21st.
Gare leads Hockey East in scoring with 18 points (6g, 12a) in 10 conference games. Gare's four goals vs. Merrimack (which included a power play goal and the game winner) marked a career high. In UNH's two games in the month of January, Gare has accrued six points (5g, 1a). Through 19 games Gare has amassed 12-21-33 and currently ranks sixth in the nation in points per game with 1.74.
UNH returns to action Saturday at Providence College at Schneider Arena. The puck drops at 7:00 p.m.
