WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Sean Collins (Reading, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team was named KOHO Player of the Week by the Hockey East Association on Monday afternoon.
Collins, a sophomore forward, was awarded for his efforts over the weekend to help UNH secure the number one seed for the upcoming league tournament. Collins scored a first period goal and later had an assist on the game-tying goal vs. Boston College Friday night, and scored two goals, including the game-winner, in Saturday night's 4-2 victory over the Eagles. Saturday's win sent UNH to the Hockey East tournament seeded number one, and as regular season co-champions.
In 33 games for the 'Cats, Collins has recorded 17goals, which ties him for second on the team, and his 24 points is third best. In league play Collins has scored 13 goals and 16 points, and has five of UNH's 15 game-winners in conference play. Collins is ranked second on the team with seven power-play goals, five of which came in Hockey East action.
Sean Collins and the rest of the Wildcat squad (21-7-6, 15-5-4 HE) return to action Friday, March 7 vs. UMass-Lowell in the first game of the best-of-three quarterfinal series. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center.
