UNH's Ayers named Hockey East Player of the Week

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Mike Ayers (Hingham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named Player of the Week by the Hockey East Association on Monday afternoon.

Ayers posted back-to-back shutouts on the week against No. 15 Dartmouth (5-0) at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Tuesday night and No. 14 Brown (3-0) on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center. Ayers stopped all 53 shots by the ECAC opponents, including 30 saves in the "Battle for the RiverStone" against the Big Green. Ayers has amassed 12 shutouts in his Wildcat career, including four this season.

In 20 starts in 2003-2004, Ayers owns a 11-7-2 record with a 2.58 GAA and a .910 save percentage. In seven starts vs. nationally ranked teams, Ayers is 5-0-2 with a 1.12 GAA and a .962 save percentage.

He ranks tied for first in the nation with four shutouts and his 505 saves is 11th best in Div. I hockey.

The Wildcats (14-7-3, 6-3-3 HE) return to action on Friday, Jan. 23 vs. Merrimack College. Game time at the Volpe Center is 7 p.m.
