SAVIANO NAMED HOCKEY EAST PLAYER OF THE MONTH

WAKEFIELD, Mass.-Senior co-captain Steve Saviano (Reading, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named CCM Player of the Month for January on Tuesday afternoon as announced by the Hockey East Association.

Saviano posted 10 goals and three assists for 13 points with a +5 plus/minus rating in eight games in the month of January. Saviano's highlights of the month include, a career-high five-points (4g,1a) on Jan. 23 vs. Merrimack, a hat trick on Jan. 13 vs. Dartmouth and a two-goal game on Jan. 30 at Maine. He registered a point in six of UNH's eight games in the month.

In 27 games this season, he has notched 22 goals and 14 assists for 36 points as the Wildcats leading scorer. Saviano ranks tied for third in the nation in points and his 1.33 points per game is tied for sixth on the Div. I leaderboard. His 22 goals puts him in a three-way tie for the national lead with Brandon Bochenski of North Dakota and Chris Connor of Michigan Tech. Saviano is also tied for the national lead with nine power play goals on the season.

The No. 10 ranked Wildcats (15-9-3, 7-5-3 HE) return to action on Friday, Feb. 6 at No. 12 ranked Massachusetts. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Mullins Center. The game will be broadcast live on the New England Sports Network as the Hockey East "Game of the Week".
