WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Senior goaltender Mike Ayers (Hingham, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team was named CCM Hockey Player of the Week by the Hockey East Association on Monday afternoon.
Ayers started the weekend with the 10th shutout of his career and the fourth consecutive shutout vs. Boston University with a 4-0 win Friday, Nov. 7 at Walter Brown Arena. He extended his shutout streak vs. the Terriers to 254 minutes, 24 seconds with the win.
On Saturday night at the Whittemore Center, Ayers made 35 saves, including the final 34 shots of the game, vs. No. 1 ranked Maine in a 6-3 victory. He finished the weekend with a .958 save pecentage and a 1.50 GAA, stopping 69 of 72 shots by Boston U. and Maine.
Ayers owns a 5-1-0 record on the season with a 1.87 GAA and a .927 save percentage. In league play, he is 3-0-0 with a 1.34 GAA and a .958 save percentage. Ayers ranks sixth in the nation in GAA and seventh in save percentage.
The Wildcats (6-1-0, 3-0-0 HE) return to action Wednesday, November 12 vs. conference rival Boston College at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester (7 p.m.).
