UNH Men's Hockey Ties Providence, 2-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Sophomore forward Mike Radja (Yorkville, Ill.) registered two points (1g, 1a) to lead the No. 14 ranked UNH men's hockey team to a 2-2 tie against No. 17 ranked Providence College on Friday night at Schneider Arena in front of 3,030 in Hockey East action.

Junior forward Brett Hemingway (Surrey, B.C.) scored his team best 18th goal with 10 minutes remaining in the third period of a rebound by a shot from Mike Radja. Hemingway beat Sims blocker side to even up the game for the Wildcats.

Radja made the game 2-1 with 15:19 left in the third on the power play. Junior center Daniel Winnik (Mississauga, Ontario) stole the puck from Providence player and circled around the left side of the net, feeding the puck through the crease to a charging Radja. It marked Radja's seventh goal on the season and Winnik's team-leading 23rd assist of the season.

With the tie, UNH's record stands at 16-11-6, 12-7-5 in Hockey East, keeping the 'Cats in a fourth place tie with Providence (17-12-2, 14-8-3 HE) in the Hockey East standings.

Providence got on the board first in the game with a goal by Tony Zancanaro his 12th goal of the season 1:02 into the second period on a slapshot from the high slot to beat Kevin Regan glove side. Then Jamie Carroll scored on the power play with 4:22 remaining in second period to extend the PC lead to 2-0. Carroll scored his eighth goal of the season on a shot from the right circle, after getting the pass from Cody Wild who was in the left faceoff circle.

Sophomore goaltender Kevin Regan (South Boston, Mass.) made his first career start against the Friars making 28 saves in his 38th start of his Wildcat career.

Tyler Sims stopped 27 shots by the Wildcats.

The UNH men's hockey team returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 25 to finish off the season series with the Friars.
