COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - University of New Hampshire associate head coach David Lassonde (Durham, N.H.) has been named an assistant coach by USA Hockey for the upcoming Under-18 Junior World Cup for the United States Under-18 Select Team.
Lassonde, who assists head coach Dick Umile at UNH in the areas of defense and goaltending during the season in Durham, will primarily work with Team USA's goaltenders throughout the tournament. The tournament begins on Aug. 9 and runs through Aug. 14 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.
Team USA opens their schedule on Aug. 9 against Finland at 3 p.m. in Piestany. Team USA is paired in Group "B" which also includes Russia and Slovakia.
Lassonde, a USA Hockey Level 4 certified coach, will begin his ninth season at UNH and 12th overall in the fall of 2005. A long-time participant in the New England District of USA Hockey, Lassonde recently coached at his fifth national festival in St. Cloud, Minn.

"Anytime you have the chance to represent your country in international competition it is something to be very proud of. I am looking forward to the challenge that our team will face against seven of the best hockey-playing countries in the world.
