WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Hockey East Association announced on Friday, June 8 that the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey program placed six of its student-athletes on the 78-player Hockey East All-Academic Team.
    Junior defenseman Brad Flaishans (Glendale, Ariz.) and junior goaltender Kevin Regan (South Boston, Mass.) headline the list of Wildcats on the Hockey East All-Academic Team as three-time honorees.
In addition to Flaishans and Regan, sophomore netminder Kirk Manke (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and sophomore forward Alan Thompson (Gilford, N.H.) were honored as two-time selections. Sophomore forward Thomas Fortney (Webster Groves, Mo.) and junior blueliner Craig Switzer (Peachland, British Columbia) were selected to the team for the first time in their Wildcat careers. All six players earned at least a 3.0 GPA in each of the two academic periods in which they actively competed.
    Flaishans was also named to the Academic All-Star Team, which identifies the top GPA’s by position. He was the recipient of UNH’s Sid Knight Award, which goes to the Wildcat with the highest GPA, at the annual team awards banquet sponsored by the Friends of UNH hockey.
    The Wildcats officially kick off the 2007-2008 season on Friday, Oct. 19 against the Boston University Terriers at Agganis Arena. UNH opens its home schedule on Friday, Oct. 13 in an exhibition game against New Brunswick at the Whittemore Center and the official home opener is Friday, Oct. 26 vs. the Colorado College Tigers of the WCHA.
