KEVIN REGAN EARNS HOCKEY EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
    DURHAM, N.H. – Junior goaltender Kevin Regan (South Boston, Mass.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Pure Hockey Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season by the Hockey East Association on Monday afternoon.
    Regan, who was the National and Hockey East Player of the Month in January, started both games against No. 9 ranked Maine this past weekend turning away 77 of 81 shots by the Black Bears in the series. He registered a career-high 46 saves in the 2-1 victory on Saturday night at the Whittemore Center and a 31-save effort in the 4-2 loss on Friday at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester.
    He has totaled a 18-4-1 record, starting in 23 of UNH’s 26 games this season to go along with a 2.02 GAA and a .935 save percentage. Regan ranks third in the conference among netminders in GAA, while his save percentage and winning percentage (80.4%) is best in the league. On the national leaderboard, his GAA ranks sixth, while his save percentage is third best among Division I goalies.
    The No. 3 ranked Wildcats (20-5-1, 15-3-1 HE) return to action at home Friday, Feb. 9 vs. Merrimack College. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Whittemore Center. The game will be televised live by New Hampshire Public Television (NHPTV).
