COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - James van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) and Blake Kessel (Madison, Wis.) of the University of New Hampshire men's ice hockey team were among a select group of 53 players from 17 states that have been invited to the 2008 U.S. National Junior Evaluation Camp in Lake Placid, N.Y., Aug. 1-9 The announcement was made on June 16 by USA Hockey. Participating players are candidates for the 2009 U.S. National Junior Team that will compete in the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship, Dec. 26, 2008-Jan. 5, 2009, in Ottawa, Ontario.

van Riemsdyk is the Wildcats' top returning scorer and was the world's leading scorer at the 2008 World Junior Championships. The freshman forward was a two-time Hockey East Rookie of the Month (Jan. & March), a Hockey East All-Rookie team honoree and ranked fourth among freshmen scoring, despite missing six games at the World Juniors.

Kessel is part of the seven-member incoming class for the Wildcats. He skated in 118 games in the last two seasons for the Waterloo Black Hawks of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and was last season’s USHL Defenseman of the Year and an all star selection.

The camp will feature practices and eight international games with a split squad of the best American players under the age of 20 facing off against Sweden and Finland.

The camp opens on Aug. 1, with the first international games set for Aug. 5. All games will be held at the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena at the Olympic Center. All practice sessions are open to the public and tickets to the international games are available through the Olympic Regional Development Authority ( in Lake Placid.
