DURHAM, N.H. – Junior goaltender Brian Foster (Pembroke, N.H.) of the University of New Hampshire men’s hockey team was named Pure Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week and Inside Hockey’s National College Player of the Week. The announcements were made on Monday afternoon.

Foster posted a pair of wins including his third career shut out against Rensselaer and a critical Hockey East win over Boston University. Foster made 47 saves on 48 shots and has allowed one goal or less in each of his starts this season. The junior netminder had 17 saves Friday and 31 on Sunday including 17 in the second stanza, for the Wildcats. The lone goal allowed Sunday was a 5-3 opportunity for the Terriers. Foster ranks fourth nationally with a 0.64 GAA, fifth in save percentage .975 and first in win percentage 1.000.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats (3-0-0) will face Massachusetts (2-1-0) at home this weekend. The teams will meet Friday, Oct. 24 (7 p.m.) at the Whittemore Center.
