VAN RIEMSDYK NAMED NEW ENGLAND ALL STAR

BOSTON – Sophomore forward James van Riemsdyk (Middletown, N.J.) was among 12 players named to the New England Division I All-Star team. The announcements were made on Thursday (April 2) and will be presented at the New England Hockey Writers annual awards banquet on Monday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.

This past season, van Riemsdyk was an All-Hockey East Second Team honoree. Overall, the sophomore forward led the team with 40 points (17g, 23a) and ranked first on the team and second in the nation in short-handed goals with four. van Riemsdyk closed out the 2008-09 season a +14 and led the team in shots on goal at 138. A two-time semifinalist for the Walter Brown Award (given to the top American born college hockey player in New England), he was Hockey East’s Rookie of the Month in March 2008. van Riemsdyk was a Hockey East All-Rookie selection in 2007-08 as he posted 34 points on 11 goals and 23 assists.

Recently, van Riemsdyk, who was drafted second overall in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. During his two second in Durham, he helped lead the Wildcats to a 45-23-8 mark and back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament.
