WAKEFIELD, Mass. – The Hockey East Association announced Monday, June 14, the University of New Hampshire men's hockey program placed eight of its student-athletes on the 79-player Hockey East All-Academic Team.
Repeat recipients junior Greg Manz (Wayne, Pa. – three-time honoree) and Damon Kipp (Salmon Arm, B.C. – two-time honoree) headline the group.
Joining Manz and Kipp on the league's All-Academic Team are juniors Phil DeSimone (East Amherst, N.Y.), Mike Sislo (Superior, Wis.) and Paul Thompson (Derry, N.H.); and a trio of freshmen in Connor Hardowa (Edmonton, Alberta), Ansel Ivens-Anderson (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) and Scott Pavelski (Plover, Wis.), who were selected to the All-Academic Team for the first time as a Wildcat. All eight players earned at least a 3.0 GPA in each of the two academic periods in which they actively competed.
The Wildcats officially kick off the 2010-11 season Friday, Oct. 8 (7:30 p.m.) at national-power Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. UNH will host an exhibition game Saturday, Oct. 2 against St. Francis Xavier University at the Whittemore Center at 7 p.m. New Hampshire's home opener is Saturday, Oct. 16 against the University of Michigan, one of the nation's most storied hockey programs.
